Chapter One: A Warped Definition of Beauty
You are beautiful. God created you. You are one of God's children. All humans are made equal in God's eyes. God loves us all equally. God believes all of us are beautiful. Possibly the majority of people do not have the same view of other people, unfortunately. Some women have a difficult time, especially these days. It's almost 2010. We live in the era of plastic surgery. We live in the era where you can't look at a television guide without seeing a list of pornography movies. We live in the era where many women want to be what they see on television, when in all actuality, nobody looks like they do on tv. It's an unattainable standard. The women on tv look different offscreen, but offscreen, many women still try to appear the way women look on the tv screen. The devil is what does this to people. It makes them believe they are not good enough, that they do not look good enough, that they aren't as beautiful as the actresses on the silver screen, the pages of Playboy, or the girl working at McDonald's. The devil and his demons will do anything they can to make people miserable. It's scary how far people will go for the warped definition of "beauty". What if people don't stop going overboard with the plastic surgery? Will someday, in the future, everyone be entirely fake and robotic-looking? Will most women have fake breasts and fake buttocks? I believe plastic surgery should be banned except for a certain group of qualified patients, those who have had accidents or deformities, and need the plastic surgery in order to live a normal life. Bless their hearts. Thousands of beautiful women though are changing their looks because of the belief that they aren't pretty enough, a belief put inside of them by demons conditioning them to think and feel this way. The demons effect their mind and emotions, but it doesn't stop there. Some women are hugely influenced by the way men view "the ideal woman". These men, too, are being influenced by the devil's demons.
People can be cruel. Think of "The Elephant Man", Joseph Merrick. (August 5, 1862 - April, 11 1890) His physical defects were caused by a congenital disorder. This poor soul must have been horribly scrutinized, laughed at, and probably also scared people away. The poor man should have been a welcome member of society, but he wasn't. If Joseph were alive today, he would have probably opted for plastic surgery. Thousands of women without any physical disorders whatsoever are going under the knife, and if I exclude the devil from the equation, television, internet, and magazines are the main culprit- the media culture.
Chapter Two: A Fictional Character Named Nikki
The main character in this chapter is a fictional woman named Nikki. All characters in this chapter are fictional. It is a summarized timeline story of Nikki's life from age 5 to 18. It depicts a life without Jesus Christ, Nikki instead idolizing the media. You may well know that if you don't have Jesus in your life, the devil is running your life. I've decided for Nikki to not worship Jesus in this story so that you may more fully understand the harsh, sometimes debilitating effects of the media on women, especially if they don't have Jesus in their lives. Following each segment, I will briefly explain how to counteract this type of thinking.
Nikki at age 5: Christmas Day
"Thank you for the doll, Mommy!", yelled Nikki. Her mother, Sandy, had bought her a frosted blonde haired doll, with a figure that would surely cause death if a human female tried to actually attain that size. The doll was wearing a purple mini-skirt, an orange spaghetti strap midriff-baring shirt, and a pair of red pumps. Nikki's mother saw nothing wrong with the doll's attire. Well, nothing wrong with giving the doll to Nikki, anyway. Young girls on television were dressing similar to what the doll was wearing. Sandy felt old and decrepit upon seeing younger women, but she took it as part of life. She was was a mother of two, Nikki, and Nikki's twin sister, Rikki. Motherhood was the end of being beautiful, she assumed.
"The Barbie Body Syndrome"
The ideal body shape nowadays is actually derived from a Barbie doll! This is a very unhealthy, dangerous ideal. Not only is it physically unhealthy, but it is unhealthy for the human mind. We are not dolls, we are women. It is not advisable to let your daughter play with Barbie dolls, Bratz dolls, or any other dolls that may have a negative impact, especially at the most impressionable ages.
Nikki at age 12: School Days
Fuschia lipstick was her lipstick of choice. She saw the same color on Sheryl Bartawn, a famous model she greatly admired, in Sexified Magazine. Her mother had confiscated the magazine a few times, as she said it was, "much too racy for a 12 year old girl." Nikki liked the word "racy" after her mother said that. She always bought more Sexified magazines every month with her lunch money that she had saved up all month. She never ate lunch. Nikki and Rikki were flipping through stacks of magazines. "I think Joey would like me if I lost 20 or 30 pounds," said Nikki. "Phillip said my butt was too big," replied Rikki. "He only dates cheerleaders." Nikki asked, "Do you think all boys like cheerleaders better?" "Yeah. ALL boys dig cheerleaders better. ALL boys. And they ARE better than us."
Brainwashed, Airbrushed, and Emotionally Needy
12 years old is another impressionable age. It's the age when girls usually begin to experiment with new ways of living. It is ok to allow your daughter to wear makeup at this age. Makeup can be fun and an artform, but many women are taught that they MUST wear makeup in order to be beautiful. This evil, cultural lie has to stop. We weren't born wearing makeup. The Lord created our faces. We are His works of art. Let the true you shine through. Allow Jesus's light to shine through you.
Not all magazines are negative, but many teach girls and women that we must look and act a certain way. These magazines "brainwash" millions of people, women and men alike. The editors airbrush the models in them, also digitally creating a "flawless" look, another move of the devil. Don't fall for the lies of satan.
Also, nobody is "better" than anybody. If you feel insecure, go to the Lord and believe that He will give you the shelter you need.
Nikki at age 18: The Collapse
Nikki stared at the unfinished vegetable medley on her hospital tray. "It's cold in here," she told her mother. Her mother stared back at her, still in shock. "You need to eat, Nikki. You need to." She found out that Nikki had been starving herself for a long time, sometimes even throwing up her meal after eating. She found this out when Nikki collapsed in a bathroom stall and had to be transported to the hospital by an ambulance. She was hooked up to a few iv's because of malnutrition and dehydration. She was down to a staggering 98 pounds. Nikki reached for the copy of Sexified Magazine that Rikki had brought in for her. Sandy, their mother, quickly grabbed the magazine from Nikki, looking at it with a grim look on her face. She held up the magazine in front of Rikki's face, the cover featuring a model with cleavage from obvious fake breasts, and soberly asked, "Is this what did this to you
Purge Your Media Mentality
Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia is a very serious problem in women, and even some men. Do not follow suit after models and actresses. Follow the Lord Jesus Christ. He will help you be healthy and happy. Do not starve yourself even if you are dangerously obese. If you must diet, follow a nutritious diet combined with a proper (not excessive) amount of exercise. Ask the Lord to help you do your thing. If you have anorexia nervosa, bulimia, or are dangerously obese, please contact a doctor to make sure you get the right treatment. First and foremost though, contact the Lord Jesus Christ, the Great Physician
Chapter 3: The Ideal Body?
So what is the ideal body? Your body is the body in which God chose for you to have during your stay on Earth. Your body is God's temple. We are God's vessels in which He carries out some of His work with.
"Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God." - Romans 12:2
Afraid you won't find the right guy because of your body shape, because of scars, loose skin, blemishes, illness? These things won't stop true love. You do not need to mold yourself into a movie star. The right person will love you no matter what. They will even love the parts you may dislike about yourself. Whatever you dislike about yourself, you should ask God to help you learn to love those parts of you. The right person will be full of God's love and will have love to give you for forever. Don't base your love expectations on others' love lives. Believe in God's wonderful promises for you. There is an amazing person out there who God wants you to marry. Keep the faith, be strong, love God, and love yourself.
