When I was 12 or 13, and the net was a sparkly, new thing, I came across a riot grrl site. It was one of the originals, I tried to find a while back n couldn't- just info about it. I found it interesting, but at that age knew nothing of it. I also was checking out stuff like disgruntledhousewives.com. So yeah, while I find myself curious about riot grrlism, there are some things I hugely disagree with. How some of it is stereotypical- are they supposed to listen to the same bands, female grunge rock?
I can't think of anything I could label myself as. Any stereotypes. I'm probably seen as a religious fanatic, indie, crazy geek chick or something... (continued)

Feminism- This does not just mean guy-hating lesbians. For some, it does. For others, it's a strong word for women's rights. I do not agree with the views of guy-hating lesbians. I do agree with women's rights. I don't consider myself a feminist, although I saw somewhere that anyone who is for women's rights is a feminist? Or something like that. "Riot girlism" is also about anarchy, which, to some, could bring to mind visions of a guy with a green mohawk, urinating on a police officer's car door after drinking a twelve pack. That is what SOME anarchists are about. I find hating authority the wrong idea. Disliking corrupt authority,

of course. Authority is a needed part of life though. There have to be people to stop the villainous.
If I were to ever label myself as a "riot grrl," i'd have to completely disagree with some of it. Yeah, I used to listen to Hole and Babes in Toyland. Years ago, and no longer bc of spiritual awakening. Now I see that what those bands write about is violent, gross (ok, Courtney). I listen to SOME punk, but a lot is violent. I feel that someone should not have to listen to a certain type of music to join a group. It's not even what the group is mainly about. The women had free speech, but the majority of bands that are spoken of in riot girl propaganda arent about women's rights, but about psychosis. I am for human rights, fully, and animal rights. Freedom, as long as it is not something harmful. I've always had a rebellious streak that I never thought of that way until not long ago. So I came to the realization, riot grrl groups are a great way to bring gals together for a cause.I read somethin about it

saying that there are no set rules. So I don't see why it'd have to just be formed into a stereotypical, nauseating guide-line following cult.
While I dont see myself calling myself a "riot grrl," I believe something I WOULD do is start a group, trying to bring women together for a good cause and to ,at the same time, have a good time.
